SAFARI ITINERARY

The experience begins today as you leave Kampala and head southwest towards Queen Elizabeth National Park.  You will make a stopover at The Equator (in Kayabwe) for a photo opportunity on the line dividing the south and North Pole. Pick a few souvenirs from the craft shops before continuing with the journey breaking for Lunch in Mbarara town.

As you enter the park, your drive guide will take you for a late afternoon en route game drive where you stand high chances of spot different  wildlife like the Elephant, Lions, Leopard, Giraffe, Hartebeest, Uganda Kob, Oribi, monkeys, … and a variety of Savannah and woodland birds.

After the game drive, proceed to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.

Travel time: 6 hours to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Take in the dawn with hot coffee or tea before your driver guide takes you for the morning game drive for an opportunity to spot the early morning wildlife in action while the sun rises majestically with its beautiful scenery. Look out for the wild cats in action before they retreat to the thickets. Other animals not to miss include elephants, buffaloes, and hippos among others. Return to the lodge for a more sumptuous breakfast and relax till lunch.

After lunch, enjoy an afternoon cruise on the Kazinga channel in search of solitary buffalo, elephants, hippo, crocodiles and many other animals. The 32 kilometers stretch that joins Lake Edward to Lake George is believed to hold the largest concentration of hippos in the entire world. Elephants, solitary buffaloes and waterbucks are among the animals normally sighted at the banks. On a lucky day lions and other predators are also sighted in the hideouts waiting to catch their prey as it goes for a drink at the channel.

The channel is also rich in bird life as thousands of birds are always at the channel both indigenous and migrant species that fly thousands of miles all the way from Europe and other parts of the world to escape the winter. Some of the bird species include the Martial Eagle, Black-rumped Buttonquail, African Skimmer, Chapin’s Flycatcher, Pinkbacked Pelican, African Broadbill, Verreaux’s Eagle Owl, Black Bee-eater, White-tailed Lark, White-winged Warbler, Papyrus Gonolek, Papyrus Canary, Corncrake, Lesser and Greater Flamingo, Shoebill, Bar-tailed Godwit. After the cruise if time allows you might take a game drive to the craters before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Take in the dawn with an early breakfast before exploring Queen Elizabeth National Park once more with en route game drive. We’ll travel towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park by journeying through Ishasha in the southern region of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Ishasha is famous for its tree-climbing lions; other game includes elephant, buffalo, and hippos.  Arrive at your destination in the late afternoon for dinner and an overnight stay at Mahogany Springs.

Travel time: 3 hours without the stops

After breakfast, we will visit the park headquarters to meet the park rangers who will serve as your guides for the day’s excursion.  Your trek into the mountains may range from thirty minutes to eight hours depending on how far the great apes are, but once you meet the gorillas, you will be able to spend one full unforgettable hour with them.

Gorilla tracking begins where the gorillas were left the previous day. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the great outdoors and return to your accommodations for dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early morning breakfast you will embark on the drive back to Kampala stopping along the way in Mbarara for lunch.  Arrive in Kampala in the evening.
